All I can say is.. If you are more for the look and feel, and like management type games, MOO is for you. But if you crave good sci-fi descriptions of the universe, try FreeOrion. Ofcourse MOO does have espionage and more features like that.. I loved the feeling the sound track gave me. Never once did I have to mute the game. Just hoping, they would add a few more sound tracks that had more of excitement than wonder.
If you guys need written content like some campaign story, or artwork and bigger captivating stories behind the species.. This is the successor to Master of Orion II that we all wanted. Game plays great: control without micromanagement, strategy galore, TONS of variety, a deep technology tree, and even a little bit of a sense of humor.
Its clear that a lot of care and planning went into making the user interface intuitive and usable, and in keeping the flow of the game moving. Turns go quickly, even when your empire gets huge. You'll get a serious case of NextTurn-itis The team has made awesome progress. Congratulations to the developers - I can't wait for the next version! Thank you! Try moving fleets around to explore, making a new colony or clicking on techs in the Research screen to read their descriptions. If you are patient enough, and you are really passionate about strictly strategic games you might want to try this project and maybe collaborate in the related forum for further, more exciting releases.

If you love Master of Orion series, you'll love this. Master of Orion on steroids, looks great, plays well and has a strong development community. While it isn't yet finished I love the way this is going.
